About MPSI
The Minnesota Psychoanalytic Society and Institute (MPSI) is the first affiliate of the American Psychoanalytic Association (APsaA) in Minnesota. It consists of two separate but related organizations: the Minnesota Psychoanalytic Society and the Minnesota Psychoanalytic Institute.
The function of the Institute is to educate psychoanalytic candidates. Virtually every other function of MPSI is conducted by the Society.
These functions include:
(1) furthering psychoanalytic awareness and education in the local community, both the mental health community and the community-at-large;
(2) providing psychoanalytic teaching and supervision to psychiatric residents and to graduate students in psychology and social work; and
(3) fostering the psychoanalytic education of its members.

Psychoanalytic education is a complex process that integrates the development of theoretical and practical knowledge with the development of a healthy and healing character. At the Minnesota Psychoanalytic Institute, this process is fostered by an approach that is open, personal, and genuinely supportive.
