"It is in the space between the inner and outer world, which is also the space between people – the transitional space – that intimate relationships and creativity occur.”

Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Training Program

Enhance Your Understanding of the Theory and Practice of
Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

This two-year sequence of training offers clinicians an opportunity to immerse themselves in the theory and practice of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.  Research confirms that treatment focused on the interaction between the therapist and the patient with a foundation in psychoanalytic theory and practice has enduring benefits. Following a structure of two classes per trimester, including a case conference, clinicians will learn to:

  • Focus on emotional experiences, as well as the patient’s avoidance of emotional experiences
  • Identify recurring themes and patterns in the patient’s past and present life
  • Understand and identify how the past is alive in the therapy in the present
  • Explore interpersonal relationships, including the therapeutic relationship

To earn a certificate, a participant must complete all of the course requirements as well as 60 hours of individual case consultation.
